I totally get the part about Brig using handcuffs on a sibling. I do NOT get the part about that sibling being Maddie. Why did she let him do that?!?
He probably told her he was doing a science experiment about Stockholm Syndrome. I can see Maddie falling for that.(Her shirt has skulls on it! I'm so in love!!)
