Chase is 8
Today Chase turned 8. He wore his new black cowboy shirt (thanks Grandpa and Grandma Malmgren) and his newly polished black cowboy boots. Davis looked at him and said, "Too bad you don't have black pants because then your whole body would match." Chase thought for a second before replying, "Yeah, but I'm not really into goth."
I'd tell you more but I have to go make a tank cake.

I Had No Idea
Chase: "What's for school lunch today?"
Me: "Spaghetti."
Chase: "American or Chinese?"
Me: "I don't think there is such a thing as Chinese Spaghetti."
Chase: "Hmm... It must be American then..."

Apparently I was wrong.

The Next Big Saying
Davis: "Stop tickling me! You're giving me an office."
Me: "What?"
Davis: "I SAID stop it because your giving me an office!"
Me: "I heard you I just don't understand you."
Davis: "Because you're making me work at not being mad at you. Work? Get it? I need an office to work! Oh my gosh. Mom. Keep up."

5 Years Later
5 years ago I told Madison she had to throw away her favorite pair of shoes because they had holes in them. This is how she reacted:
So imagine my joy when nary a tear was shed last week when I told her to throw away another favorite pair of shoes for the same reason.
We've come a long way baby!
Do you love the fact that she still does her hair the same way?

A Few Things Davis Said to My Mom
Yesterday was “infusion day,” so Kai and I were chilling at the hospital while Davis spent some quality time with Grandma Jan.
When I first dropped Davis off, my mom was doing her hair. She had just put styling gel in when my Dad told her he was leaving, so she went into the other room to check on the Dave. When he saw her he said, "Grandma, your hair looks crazy."
My mom: "I know. I was just getting ready to dry and curl it."
Davis: "No. I mean it looks really crazy! It looks crazier than clown's hair. In fact, I think clowns could quit buying wigs and just do whatever you did to your hair to theirs."
Later, an ad for an electric power chair came on the TV and asked, "Have you fallen in the last 3 months?" Davis said "Well I have fallen. But I am not getting one of those".
And then for the trifecta... Davis drew a picture of my mom all tied up in a dungeon and unable to move. My mom said, "Davis, don't draw me in a sad place, put me in a happy place!" Davis exasperatedly said, "But grandma, I put a smile on your face."

Science Fair 2013
The science fair is today. Well technically for Kai's class it was yesterday but yesterday he was home sick with the stomach flu. This is the second time he's had to miss the science fair because he was sick. Unfortunately immune system disorders and winter don't get along.
Yesterday Michael set his board up and left a little note by his research packet explaining that he was sick. We figured that way he was still sort of participating and it wasn't all for naught. He was still disappointed that he was going to miss the science fair again so we were thrilled when they said he could come today and compete with the other 5th and 6th grade classes.
Knock 'em dead buddy.

07 December 2012
Just a few things I found around the house after the the boys left for school.
A pile of pajamas by the fire.
An apple and a shirt on a kitchen chair. I'm pretty sure they had shirts on when they left
...but this does make one wonder.
The peanut butter lid on a bar stool.
A forgotten sandwich on the bar.
And a bag of open bread under the Christmas tree in the front room.
All in all--a pretty typical morning.
